PVA Wayfinding
Those sailing the Pacific Vision Aotearoa waka had the very grounding opportunity to be immersed in an overnight wānanga retreat dedicated to wayfinding. Navigating and charting the course for PVA’s journey forward into the future, with the ancient wisdom our ancestors used to navigate the moana. We had the absolute honour and privilege of being guided by Faumuina Felolini Maria Tafuna’i and Lopeti Sumner from Flying Geese. Catch a glimpse of our first night together through our short Facebook reel here.
It was very thought provoking and at times challenging. Faumuina showed us how taking the birds eye view would help us to see what the moana is doing around our waka and what the currents are like in our journey forward. We came up with which islands we are pulling towards us (the Island of success) and which islands we wish to avoid (Sera’s favourite - the island of doom) but also how we navigate when strong winds arise.
It was a huge treat to be in the presence of our Spiritual Leader Reverend Ifalame Teisi during this noho, as with each kōrero he shared his precious pearls of wisdom.
We are looking forward to sharing our learnings in the coming months.
